Talking Questions about flooring it...

Has anyone on here ever floored their car? The other day I was late to work and the driver in front of me was going really slow, so I decided to pass him. However, when I tried to get over to pass him, he suddenly switched to the lane I was switching to, which got me boiling because he had been going really slow and now he would not move out of my way. Finally, I just put my foot nearly all the way down on the accelerator and blasted beside him. I did it again when I got off the interstate at an intersection in which the light seemed to take forever to turn green and when it did, I put it to the floor again. For the past few days, I've done this a lot and kinda enjoy it. Usually, I just do it when I'm coming up an on-ramp or pull of from an intersection. I love to hear my engine roar up to speed. I usually just floor it until I reach the speed limit and get onto the interstate. When I'm on the interstate and need to pass, I floor it as well. I really enjoy doing this, but don't want to trash my vehicle. Can I do this without tearing up my car?

I love to hear my 08' Grand Caravan's engine roar up to speed. I usually just floor it until I reach the speed limit and get onto the interstate. Will flooring it causes more wear and tear on my vehicle, or is it okay to do this?

Your in a Caravan...not a muscle car. Drive responsible and carefully.

And yes its going to cause wear and tear on the transmission as I don't think they put built transmissions in caravans.

Do you enjoy paying for gas? Had any blown engines lately. Have fun, but don't have too much fun, it can be expensive. Ever heard of reckless driving. I know someone who got a ticket for leaving a traffic light too fast.

I remember flooring my car a few times, but it was usually a passing situation on a two lane road. The purpose was to get around the car as soon as possible. I hated the idea that my car was going as fast as it could go and would not go any faster. I always prefer to have a reserve of energy in case of emergency.

You sure? As there not going to give you a ticket just for taking off fast. That is unless you squeal the tires or something like that.

If they really want to write you a ticket, they can. Something along the lines of 'improper display of power'. Doesn't necessarily mean you layed rubber.

To the OP: It's not going to hurt your van to floor it, I wouldn't make a habit out of it though.

Once in a while it can be good for a vehcle to blow th carbon out of the exhaust. I had an old Pontiac Bonneville once and used to drive it like a grandma. About every 6 months on the way home from work I would floor it and get 3 or 4 thousnad RPMs on the motor and it would throw up a pretty good smoke screen of brownish carbon for a few seconds. If I did it the next day there would hardly be no brown smoke so I new it was cleaning out my exhaust and cat conv etc...

Theres a cable hooked up to your transmission and acdelerator (it could be computerized now) called a kickdown. What this does is downshift your transmission when you you are cruising in drive and floor the accelerator. If you stayed in drive you wouldnt pick up speed very fast. This allows the car to get from 55 to 75 in a hurry so you can get around traffic faster. I dont think stepping into the kick down all the time is a good thing.

I cant drive a car hard because ive spent to much time repairing the damn things and you dont want to cause problems. My sister drives her vehicles really hard and I dont really notice that her cars are anymore repair prone than mine. I know people that say its a machine and its made to be driven so drving it hard isnt necessarily a bad thing. What I think is that you should drive the car the way you feel comfortable and the machine will adjust to you.

I wouldnt be driving fast anywhere near other traffic or even a remote possiblity of pedestrians, especially children
