I know several people who got OnStar with their car. Only one of them kept it after the free first year that comes with the car. It is expensive ($100/month) and all he ever used it for was to get tickets to movies and/or events. I guess they have some sort of inside track to get tickets that are not avialable otherwise.
I think that it sounds great. If it was reaosnably affordable, I would get it, but if it is $100/ month, I need to trim my monthly bills, not add a third of a car payment to them. On top of the monthly fee, I expect that they charge all fo the communication taxes, fees and other mystery charges that appear on cell phone bills. If you use it as a cell phone, they must also charge usage fees. THe concept of a phone available where there are no cell towers has some appeal, but those areas are getting fewer and fewer. Cell towers are nearly everywhere now. I have been in some extremely secluded places, even on top of a mountain and been able to get cellular service.
As far as the privacy issue goes, if I wanted to be paranoid, I would be more concerned about being falsely accused of something than of someone "watching" me. If you can recapture the records of where you have been, it woudl be a great means to support an alabi.
OnStar must be doing ok. They have several floors in the building where my office is. I asked them about layoffs and they indicated that they feel that their jobs are reaosnably safe. I always laguh when an On Star guy gets lost in the building.

We pay $12.95/month and have all the features. Believe the 100 minutes of phone time costs between $30 - $40 which generally lasts us a year.

Wow. that is a great deal. I pay $10/month for very bad GPS service in my cell phone. I could cancel that and get the full package for an additioanl $18/month. That is a bargain. I was certainly misinformed. Do they have a $100/month service at all?
I know that my friend used to buy tickets with Onstar, because I saw him do it. Maybe it is a discontinued service?

I've never seen pricing that high ($100.00) in anything I've looked at. I'm only 7 months into my free year. I also read somewhere that the price can be negotiable.
Is your car/truck OnStar equipped.

Personally, I'm not fond of the Avalanche because of the blind spot and the short bed. I know you do a lot of work around the house and I would want the longer bed. Just my opinion. I agree, they do look good.
If your serious about OnStstar, make sure it has it on the truck, I don't think some of the early models had it as standard equipt.
