Thankyou for the excellent post! I'm not very knowledgeable about this kind of thing, it's good to learn stuff. I just like driving the cars and looking at them.

Wasn't the 368 Cadillac motor considered a big block or a small block?

I believe (like Pontiac and Olds) Cadillac only had one series block so there was no designation between a small or a big block.

IMO, any of the early 70s 455's put out by Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac.

I also loved the 455 V8's myself, especially the Oldsmobile's, the Pontiac and the Buick 455's were also very nice engines

Def! I have owned all three and all were excellent. I had a 1971 Oldsmobile Toronado with a 455 (this was the fastest) a 1972 Buick Electra with a 455 (fast too) and my 1973 Pontiac Grand Ville has a 455... powerful, but not as fast as the other two thanks to emissions controls.

I have had two Chevys with big blocks... thumbs down. Both had have cam woes. One was a 69 Caprice 396 and currently my 72 Caprice wagon with a 402. Had cams replaced in both... 69 turned out OK, but started smoking... still having problems with my 402... low power. Frustrating, as I have a fortune in this car.

While neither are rare I would say the 500 Cadillac is more rare cause the 351W was built from the late 60s to late 90s versus 1970 to 1976 for the 500 Cadillac. The 500 is capable of far more power just no comparison there. Since they both run great I would pay more for the 500 Cadillac myself.

How much power does your 1972 Buick Electra and your 1973 Pontiac GrandVille have? I know 1973 was not a performance friendly year due to the Emissions Controls
