We are trying to decide between the two. Price wise the Insight is much more attractive plus it is available now and we really need a car but it feels cheap to us compared to the Prius and the Prius gets better mpg and looks nicer. However it is more expensive and when is it coming out exactly? I can't seem to find an answer on this. We really need a car as soon as possible and also would like to keep price as low as we can. What would you do? Is Prius worth the extra $ in comparison to the insight? We plan to test drive the Insight this weekend and the 2009 Prius.

Here are some articles. Seems the difference to me is that the Insight appears to drive like a normal Honda, while the Prius is more MPG economical but doesn't drive as well.

If you must, I'd go with the insight. They're both pretty ugly but I think the Insight is much sportier looking than the Prius, which looks pretty much exactly the same as the old prius except slightly worse. They really haven't made any changes to the Prius except for the mileage, which I highly doubt will be much better than the insight. I really like the interior of the insight, the prius is still too gimmicky like the old one, it probably doesn't matter if the materials feel cheap, as long as they don't fall apart (which they probably won't. There really isn't much difference between the two.. I suppose it's a matter of taste, but it's not like one taste is really any different than the other. If you really want something more attractive, go with a Ford Fusion Hybrid. That'll still deliver you plenty of MPG's, far more than any other sedan, without looking like a snail.

I think the new Insight is 4 or 5 inches shorter than the Prius and the difference is mainly noticable in the back seat. It's also got a 2 1/2" shorter wheelbase which will mean a choppier ride. Insight is a "compact" while the Prius is a "mid-size".

Thank you everyone. We are going to look at both this weekend (the 2009 Prius since 2010 isn't out yet).

I think I might wait for the Ford Fiesta. But if I HAD to have a hybrid, I'd go with the Insight.

I wonder if they'll build the CR-Z....

I like the Fiesta also but we need a car soon and I believe that isn't coming out until next year. That could be a good second car option though.
