My uncle bought a '86 VW Rabbit convertible (Cabriolet?) from a relative that bought it new. He bought it for his daughter. He refused to drive it- said it was a womans car. Later I saw a guy driving one.
I hear the Subaru/Lesbian affilliation too but never really understood why.

Funny these were mentioned- the other day I was at an interesection and saw a "masculine" looking lady setting in a Subaru Outback, but I have seen some in Foresters as well.
In the 90s it seemed to be Hondas they preferred. I never thought much of it before. I had a teacher that was like that and she had a Civic, her friend had a Prelude and in general, I would see them driving Hondas, but even then some had Subarus overall. I have a couple of Lesbian friends I work with and they have Hondas or Toyotas... one has a Mazda and one just bought a new Ford Fusion... no, I have never discussed this with them before.

Feminine cars: Mitsu Eclipse, VW New Beetle, Scion Xb, Geo Tracker, Jeep Compass/Patriot, Honda Odyssey, Pontiac Sunfire, etc.
Masculine: Viper, Cobra, Ram, Super Duty, 7 series, etc.
And for all the misinformed, the Miata is not feminine whatsoever other than its diminutive size. Its a purist sports car in the British tradition. Small, light, neutral, lithe, incredible on the track. Sure some women bought them but only because "theyre cute", but its for a man who knows and enjoys driving, particularly on winding roads and road courses.
The only cars I think of as "chick cars" are the new generation Mustangs, the VW Beetle, the Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan 350/G35 type cars. When I see who's driving those cars, it's almost always females.
As far as female lines in the design element of the car, there are too many to list, and those cars seem to be driven mostly by men -- the 911 comes to mind right away. The best classic and modern sports cars, roadsters and sports coupes have female design elements-- at least from my perspective. I guess a modern example is the MX-5 or the slightly older Z3.
It's all just personal perception though really-- unless you're a car designer who knows the intent or a car marketing person who's worried about hitting the right demographic, it simply does not matter at all.
The Geo Storm was a popular "chick" car in the early 90's.
I don't know why GM thought guy's would want the same style in their Camaro though?
I think the LT1 and a t56 make up for it
