When I was a babe, my mom had a '66 Fury II 4dr sedan. I dont recall how it rode though, but my dad said that his '66 Impala SS 2dr he had at the same time had a better ride than moms '66 Fury II 4dr sedan.
OK... here you go. I found an old photo of the car my mom had when I was a baby. She would kill me if she knew I posted this... this was taken in May 1976 two months after I was born with mom and dad. Check out the bell-bottoms. *Also, if you look in the background, there appears to be a mid-late 60s Chrysler.... perhaps a '66 Newport and if you look on up the road, there looks to be another 2dr Mopar of some sort....
I owned a 1965 Plymouth Fury III two door hardtop. Very similar to the 1966.
It wasn't the VIP but it was a great car. It was a bronze metallic color with fender skirts, black interior, and had the reading lamps on the C pillar by the rear seat.
It had the 318 cid engine. I think that was the last year the 318 was a wide block motor. I believe in 1966 the 318 was a more narrow block or head design that was used for years. I had a 1973 Plymouth 318 and the engine looked more narrrow than the 65 Fury.
The 65 was a great car. Looked great, rode great, ran great, and had a very nice interior. I would love to find another one just like it.
They sure don't make cars like they used to. And it's a damn shame they don't.
If you can find a 65 or 66 Fury worth buying, grab it.
Yeah, the "low-priced" three (Plymouth, Chevy, Ford) was quite a bargain back then. You got a lot of car for $3,000-$4,000.
The last year for the wide-block (Poly) 318 was 1966. My brother's '66 Fury III had that engine. It was the last year for the 318 with solid valve lifters which had to be adjusted from time to time (easy to do). My '66 Dart GT (273) also had solid valve lifters; I remember adjusting those, too.
Compression ratio for the '65/'66 318-Poly was 9.0:1, for the '67 the 318 was a wedge-head and had a 9.25:1 c.r.
That Fury looks good and it's nice to see so many Mopars on the street back then.
Yeah, I had never noticed those other cars in the background before until last night and we have had that photo for 32 years.
Is that car of my moms (the white one) a '65 or a '66? I think my dad said it was a '66, but I am not sure. Also at that time, my dad had a '66 Impala SS 2dr and a '69 Camaro. He was a Chevy fan, which is why they probably sold the Fury. I think he said they sold it for like $200 a year after this photo was taken... it was only 10 years old when that was taken, so I guess it was in good shape overall. I also remember he said it had A/C, which seemed odd for a Fury II, but I guess it was not as uncommon on southern cars. I also notice that car has a different style wheel on the back... the hubcap on the front looks to be original.
My grandfather also had a '66 Newport like the one across the street in the photo, it was brown and a nice car... that was only about 10 years ago... he sold it for $100! I think the guy buying it was going to derby it!

Hard to tell about that white car. Looks like a '66; could be a '65.
Oh, no! Demolition Derby? No fair to put Mopars in there!
I know it. I wish now I had of bought it. That was about 10 years ago. I remember that car had a super neat instrument cluster in it.
That's true. One of the best instrument clusters, IMO, on any car ever. I also like the instrument cluster on the '60-'61 Chryslers. Have you seen those? I have a photo of one somewhere.
An update:
I did win the '66 Plymouth VIP (photos are shown in post #16)!
I will post my own photos of it and a few youtube videos once I have the car and when I get a chance.
I have owned a small-block Mopar before ('66 Dart GT V-8); I have always wanted to own one with a big-block engine and this 383-4 bbl-powered Fury should fit the bill.

1966 Plymouth Fury VIP (383-4 bbl)
1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham (472-4 bbl)
1976 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Limousine (500-4 bbl)
1995 Lincoln Town Car (281/4.6 L)
Thats great! I am looking forward to seeing more photos.
