Default just bought a 5.0

this is the 1989 Mustang LX that i just bought the other day. i paid sixteen hundred bucks! helluva deal. so far i have had to buy new tires, went ahead and had the wheels sandblasted and powdercoated, and TT&L. i also bought new speakers and installed a new CD player that i had on hand, but it's having the same issue as the factory stereo had: power to the radio works, but no sound from the speakers. anybody know what's up with that?

The only thing off the top that I remember is that if the aftermarket CD player is wired to the factory amp (premium sound package), then you get no sound.

Factory amp (a noted POS) only works with a factory premium sound radio unit as non-premium units have an internal amp.

okay. that's interesting, but, the factory tape deck was in the car when i bought it, and it had the exact same problem - no sound from the speakers. btw, i think it is the "premium sound package." the factory speakers all said "premium speaker" anyway.

thanks for the input.

There are very few tape decks that are premium sound options. It's almost all CD players from what I remember from my Ranger owning days.

Heck, it may have been the stereo that had no tape player included that was the other P/S option along with the CD player.

It's been too long since I've seen my old Ranger's manual for this...the truck's in Mexico now. Sorry.

I had a 1988 5.0. Still miss it sometimes.

Looks like yours is in fantastic shape considering the age. I remember years ago when I owned mine they were a common car to see on the highways and now they are few and far between.

Would look better with some '91-'93 GT wheels (I think they were optional on the LX).

The five spoke wheels looked pretty good on the car and always wanted those for mine.
