top rated the 72 and 73 Marquis--top rated in every way except for handling(GM cars came in a close second with much better steering/ handling ratings)

The lemons were the smaller cars. The mid 70s Mercury Marquis was considered by many as the best fullsize car available.

I know limo's use vinyl for this very reason as the roof starts to warp after a while.

The roof won't warp if the car is properly garaged and kept clean.
BTW, a vinyl roof was an option on the Cadillac limos. One of my car friends owns a '67 Cadillac limo with no vinyl roof. (The car is black.)

Thats right... the big cars of the early-mid 70s were good cars... I have owned several. The 73-78 big Fords and Mercurys were especially well-built cars.

If you are considering ownership, you can get a pristine old Cadillac or Lincoln for just a few thousand dollars these days (check Ebay). Furthermore, those GM/Ford parts are cheap and plentiful.
For this reason I wouldn't even waste time with an old Mercury. Although I do not doubt that they are nice.

yes it is in Mn. Don't be so discouraged though. This truck was previously owned by an old guy who only used it for his camper.I did however have to undo some of his farmer style modifications. He had some goofy adapter to convert it to a 2 barrel. That was the first thing to go. It has a holley 700 now. I'm planning on changing the heads and installing new rings and bearings. Pictures coming soon. The tailgate is not original, and it has no rear bumper(Ford assumed it was for a camper) GVWR9900lbs.
