Were the 1969-72 Mercury Marquis's good cars? (auto, best, buy)

Were the 1969-72 Mercury Marquis's good cars? I've always liked the looks of those cars (w/1971 being my all time favorite year) and I wish there were more of those cars around today, I personally thought the 1969-72 Mercury Marquis's were just as classy as the Lincoln's and the Cadillac's of the same era.

My family had a 71 for a school car back in the 70's and we drove muddy roads and plowed a lot of snow back in Nebraska then. It ran well and lasted many yrs after we were all out of school. They had it painted red, at a cheap paint shop and yrs later it faded to an ugly pink and not much fun to drive.

It's a shame that your Marquis later turned pink, that was a really nice car your family had back in the day, I always thought the Mercury Marquis's from that era were really classy looking vehicles

Very good cars, 429 V8, C6 auto and 9" rear end, thats one of the best drive trains ever put in a car and great styling too. I recommend them to anyone, you should get one.

Yeah, they were good. My favorites are the 4dr hardtop Brougham models, especially the '72 models.

I THINK this one is a '71, maybe a '72. I am sure someone will know. There wa something about the difference in the taillights/parking lights between the two....




I think it even looked more "luxurious" than the base Cadillac Calais that year (and probably cheaper too).... I think partly because the base Cadillac lacked a vinyl top and it had chrome interior accents, rather than woodgrain... the DeVille added vinyl top and woodgrain interior accents, so the DeVille surpassed even the Marquis Brougham IMO, but as it should be.. it was a Cadillac.

as you can see, the DeVille was a nice upgrade from the Calais...

If I've had the money I would definitely buy one, they are still fairly affordable although the prices have increased alot over the past few years, I really liked the drivetrains and the styling of those cars myself.

The photo of the Marquis you've sent was a 1971 model, I was never really a huge fan of the Calais and I can see why they're much rarer than the Deville, I think the Marquis looked classier than the Calais and is IMO on par with the Deville, I personally thought the Marquis Brougham's looked classier than the early 1970s Lincoln Continental's although they're both nice looking cars.

I believe that was either a 1967 or a '68 Marquis, I personally liked the 1969-72 styling alot better although the 1967-68's were nice looking.
