What's this rattling sound when the clutch is engagaed?
On my 4X4 S-10 when the clutch is engaged it makes a rattling sound. It happens as soon as the clutch and pressure plate take hold and seems to disappear as soon as they're fully engaged. It sounds like rocks thrown around inside the t-case. It's in the driveline and not the engine. Any idea what it could be?

Just to throw out a possibility, bad throwout bearing? Or does the noise only happen when the clutch is actually slipping, does it make the noise with the clutch fully dis-engaged and truck in gear? What about if you barely depress the clutch pedal to take the slack out of the system, but not enough to make it slip?
Does it make the same noise if you are in neutral? Does the noise seem to go with engine speed or truck speed?

I also would suspect the throw-out bearing.

...or, loose springs in the clutch plate. Either way, you have to take it just as far apart to repair one as the other. When you go that far, replace the clutch assembly and the T/O bearing...

By the way, Omaha, I wasn't too happy with the results of the CWS..! Did you have anything to do with that...?

Not a thing!
I've never caught "CWS Fever", so I actually do my level best to stay away from that area of Omaha at this time of year.
On the other hand, I've got lots of friends who love the tradition - and to me that seems like an awesome deal. Lots of great time for family and friends, which seems like exactly what sporting events should be!

It happens as I let out on the clutch with the trans in 1st, 2nd or reverse. It happens right as the clutch takes hold and seems to stop as soon as the clutch pedal is all the way out.
No it does not do it when in neutral. And it does not increase with engine speed. No it does not do it if I slightly depress the clutch pedal.
It does sometimes have a little bit of clack in the gear changes which I think might also be attributed to the same reason why...not sure.
What's funny is the clutch does not slip, in fact it is real touchy. At 138k I would imagine the clutch has been replaced before which isn't a new throw out bearing part of a clutch r&r?

is it possible for some fluid to somehow have made it onto the clutch disc, and it's "grabbing" instead of being smooth on the hook up?
It's ben a long time since i've taken something like this apart, but seems that any fluid/grease on a disc could cause issues.
just a thought...
