Exterior wise the car needs a paint job (min rust),vinyle top & the pass side of windshield has been cracked for over 10 yrs. The a/c needs recharged (ill do that summer of 2010) & i need a front end alignment. I get 14/19 mpg & the car is comfy & runs good. Its a basic delta 88 & all the pwr windows work (4) unlike the car im driving now. Im hoping to pass smog but i gotta run/drive it for awhile on the freeway. The foul dmv will only give me a one day operating permit so i gotta do it right. So.....would you drive this 24 yr old full sized ca car ? http://community.webtv.net/rpp64/olds
IMO this car is well past the point of diminishing returns for the use you will get from it. Send it to recycle.

I'd drive it to the junkyard.

I had a 72 Delta Royal 88 in Orlando, FL and loved how it drove but only drove it cause I was saving for my first new truck, a 93 Dodge Dakota V-8. I drove Olds for 18 months and sold for Dodge. I do not miss Olds and prefer newer nicer and safer rides.

No car that is paid for, and runs well, is past the point of diminishing returns. Every month that you can avoid $400 per month payments on a newer vehicle is a bonus. I say take advantage of cheap vehicles for as long as possible.

If the OP has any mechanical skills to speak of, he can do virtually all the regular maintenance on this car. He'll save thousands of dollars doing that.

I would definitely rock that thing! I am only 22 and have ONLY been driving cars like that since I was 17. I love the big ole GM boats. They are reliable as sin and cheap as hell to maintain. Get a book on quadrajets and learn how to properly tune it... just set it and forget it. That engine/carb combo is capable of very good MPG to weight ratios.

I currently drive a '92 Buick Roadmaster Station Wagon with a 350 GM V-8. It can get over 25 mpg on the highway and about 12 around town. I consider this one of the best vehicles GM ever made. When this car rusts out to the dangerous level I will find another out west and bring it back.

Actually if I find a 1995 Buick wagon in New Mexico I might just leave it there and move me to it. then we would both avoid another New Hampshire winter.

One of my sons had an '87 Buick Estate Wagon - complete with wood grain paneling & pillow-top seats. That beast was unbelievable, and didn't have a speck of rust.

But, as luck would have it, some idiot kid rear-ended the car at a stop light. He was driving a Ford Escape & was screwing around with CDs. The ONLY redeeming thing about the accident is that the airbag on his Escape absolutely slapped the kid silly.
