We're looking to get a new smaller SUV type vehicle, and have been looking at the Hyundai Sante Fe and Subaru Forester.
While Hyundai's warranty seems to be considerably better than Subaru's, I had someone tell me that he had a transmission denied because he didn't get all the services done at the dealership; he claimed the services were expensive.
On the other hand, while subraru doesn't have as long a warranty, they seem to have significantly less complaints against them.
How do the required services compare on these two vehicles?
All you have to do is prove that the services where done;its against the law to require the services be done at the dealership. my guess is its juts rumor lke so much.
IMO the H warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. I researched it and found numerous big ticket items that were scoped out of the long term warranty. For example the a/c compressor - 3 years no matter if you get the wrap around warranty or not.

But why do they put a guarantee on the box?
Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of ####. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

I'm driving a 2004 Santa Fe I bought used from a Hyundai dealer with 52K miles on it. It is my third Hyundai, the first two I bought new, an Excel and an Elantra. Never had to call on the warranty, except for a light bulb burned out in the trunk of the Excel - replaced no charge I have been lucky to have had three out of three great dealerships to work with.
I had a 2002 Hyundai Accent as my first car (learned how to drive manual on it) and it withstood a couple years of brutal abuse without a hiccup until I sold it for a fancier car. If the Hyundai is offers the better value I would certainly go for it.

There's always at least one in a Hyundai thread.
When I was in the market for a mid-size SUV, I looked at both the Hyundai and Subaru. I liked the feel of the Hyundai better. You really do have to go out and test drive 'em. Get a feel for 'em.
FTR, I didn't go with either, but if my choice had been between those two, I'd have taken the Hyundai, no question.
If Hyundai has turned around that is great news. Unfortunately we won't know what their long term reliability is for another 5-10 years on the newer cars. Subarus are in a different class than Hyundais though, I don't think it's fair to compare the two.
