First off, I must say I have been extremely pleased with my 06' Sonata, I am approaching 79k and have had no issues with this vehicle. I do routine maintenance and all is well.
I do have an issue, I noticed over the weekend that when I use my keyless entry the parking lights and rear tail lights don't flash on/off. They have always flashed up until this point. When I manually turn on the parking lights and headlights, everything works fine. I also noticed that my center mounted brake light in the rear window is not working, but it did go on and off sometimes through out the day. I backed up to my garage door and I noticed that sometimes it's on and sometimes it's out.
So is this a simple fix? A fuse? It doesn't appear to be a bulb issue, or maybe this is a warning that the bulb is going out?
I would like to take it in to be looked at, but wanted advice here first. I really don't like the fact that the brake light on top is out, for safety concerns, the lights not flashing when I unlock the car is not a big deal.
It sounds like a fuse to me but my Infiniti G35 had an issue with the rear center break light not lighting at all times and it had to be replaced (it was a common issue).
Loose bulb or something I have seen just once - the filiment in the bulb could be broken, but able to move around so it sometimes works and sometimes not. Like I said, I have seen this on a tail-light type bulb, just once. Normally you would not expect a "burnt-out" bulb to come back to life...
If the high-mount is not an LED you may be able to get an LED type bulb to fit.
Thanks everyone, it's not an LED bulb, I purchased a new bulb for the center brake light in the window, however, I have no idea how to access the bulb, there is no way from the actual light area in the car. I was reading a little online, and it seems very cumbersome to change the bulb. I will have Hyundai look at it next week. Thanks again.
I am now at 83k miles on my 2006 Sonata...not one problem...the only issues have been routine maint...oil changes and recommended services at certain mileage points. I have replaced the tires {normal wear/tear}, had the center brake light bulb replaced and the fog light bulbs replaced. I can't complain one bit about this car...This is my first Hyundai after being a loyal Toyota customer for over 11 years {4 Toyota vehicles}. I will keep this car running with routine maint at least until the 100k mile warranty expires...hopefully it will last beyond 100k miles though...time will tell
Our 01 Sonata GLS V6 has been, well, decent in the engine department (minus CELs and a bad pulley bearing), but the suspension/brakes have been a TOTAL NIGHTMARE. I estimated that were it not for Hyundai's 100K mile warranty, we would have paid about 5K for repairs. Unacceptable.
the center brakelight mounting screw has to be accessed from the trunk then you have to pry it out from inside the car, once i had mine out i cut the base of the plastic light socket to make it shorter and easier to remove and reinstall next time
