I have seen very few Explorers on the road in the past 10 years. Mostly Japanese SUVs today. The Explorer Firestone marriage was a death marriage for both. Besides the Explorer is a POS.
It's a local thing.
I can't go out without tripping on an Explorer here in DC. I see at least ten being used as commuters every morning/afternoon.
I'd like to see a list broken down a little differently. OK it's obvious that lots of Ford Explorers are being traded in. Why not take the year off, put them in the number 1 slot, and then list the other types of cars being traded in. I'd be interested in seeing the stats when this is all over.
I will be interested in seeing what this does to the used car market. They may end up making a car purchase impossible tor lower income folks. We just got a car for our daughters for $1800. It was a 1999 Grand Caravan. Now that probably would have been traded in as a clunker, it is worth more that way.
I have a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan and it runs great and no way would I trade it in! Fully loaded and towed a fully loaded 5 x 8 Uhaul Trailer from Houston to Chicago on a 3.3L and regular tranny, no tow package. Worst mpg of 8 mpg against a strong headwind, maybe got 17 mpg sometimes towing...
That list will only be complete when the sales figures are added. Until we know how many of each were sold compared to others this list is meaningless.
Interesting that there's only four American made cars on the most bought list, one would think that the American government would have put a stipulation that in order to qualify for the program you had to buy an American made vehicle. I guess that would be too much like right....
My 2002 Explorer will be on the road for a good while longer. When I do trade it, it will likely be for another SUV of similar size.
I am very much inclined to agree with you, however the
MORONS
at the Ford Motor Company saw fit to discontinue the full-sized TWO DOOR SUV, so I have no choice but to purchase my next SUV elsewhere (if I can even find one).
