Anyone notice the number of brand new cars being driven on tv series? I first noticed this while watching some of the shows on CBS. CSI Miami had Hummers. Ghost Whisperer's lead character always drove a Saturn and some other characters also drove a Saturn. Then last night on SyFy channel's Eureka they went out of their way to show off a Subaru Impreza WRX by name and horsepower numbers and all wheel drive. Anyone notice this on any other television show?
Top Chef. Toyota SUVs. And they always mention them by name:
"Get in the RAV4s/etc and go to the Whole Foods..."
I think that Terminator 3 was a big Toyota commercial, too. What with the little truck getting beat to crud and still running great and being all tough.
The current TV series that I think has the best car right now is Supernatural. That car is a beauty. What makes it even better is it isn't classic in show car condition. It's a classic that's driven to enjoy.
"Heroes" and Nissan. They have some blatant Nissan plugs in a few episodes.
In the pilot episode, when Hiro and Ando arrive in LA, Hiro goes to the rental counter asking specifically to rent a Versa. The Versa is seen in several other episodes throughout season 1.
Season 2 starts off with Noah giving Claire a Rogue for a birthday present. "You're giving me the Rogue!?" In the second episode it gets stolen from her school parking lot. "Dad, someone stole the Rogue." Rogues appeared in several season 2 episodes.
I haven't been following the series lately, but I guess the Cube is the newest push.
The show "Las Vegas" has a really nice Camaro one of the security guys drives around in. If you watch old episodes of "Angel" he used to drive around a lot in a convertible Belvedere that I am not sure off hand but may have been a GTX. The same show also has some episodes where he runs some kind of law firm and there is a parking lot in the basement filled with muscle cars.
Anyone remember the straight to network TV movie "The Last Ride" that came out in 2004 with Dennis Hopper and Fred Ward? That was basically an 84 minute commercial for the new GTO.

And it worked so well.
I don't have a problem with this kind of thing, TV shows cost money to produce, and that money has to come from somewhere. Ever notice in 24 that almost every car is a Ford, and that logo is sure to get flashed around?
It's better than some other advertising that is really jammed down your throat.
