Help is the key word. All you have to do is open the window and put yuur arm upto it in summer. Then behind the window and feel the difference. If you want the interior to saty coller when parked block all the sunlight from entering;it will be much cooler still.
Window tint does help but it works best if you use an insulated reflective shade for your windshield. The windshield shade protects your dashboard and helps to reduce the amount of the sun's energy from getting inside the car. When you get in the car and remove the windshield shade, roll down the windows and go down the road a ways to remove excess heat. Roll them up and crank up the AC. The tinted windows will also help your AC keep the interior cool by reducing the amount of the sun's energy from getting inside. You can have the best and coolest AC in your car but if you have too much bare glass then the sun's heat will overpower the AC. Just ask any previous owner of an AMC Pacer.

You mean Pacers actually came with A/C?
Is there a certain tint percentage that works best? or is it the darker the better?
As mentioned mine has tint and it's the legal 35% tint. But I don't think I've ever noticed any difference in interior temps.
I don't know about cooler, but tint does help block UV rays from damaging interior plastics and fading fabric. My Explorer has factory dark tint on all windows except the front ones. The rear door panels and cargo plastics still look new, but the front door panels are getting chalky looking since there is no tint.
It depends... tint only SLOWS the process, it does not STOP it... therefore if you leave it out for 5 hours it will be just as hot inside as it would be without the tint... However, if you drive around and have tint and its cooled down, it will take a bit longer to heat it back up if you turn off the AC... it only SLOWS the process down but it won't do much if it is heated over a longer period of time...

In the early days of window tint, the best was the mirrored tint. They were made illegal because they were blinding to other vehicles on the road when the sun reflected off the mirror. I was a victim of one of those mirror tints so I'm glad they're illegal. Only other way to keep the car cool is with a car cover and that is a pain in the behind.
Oh, if you go to online automotive catalog companies you can order a windshield shade custom fit for your particular model vehicle. They aren't cheap but they do fit great. I have one you buy at an autoparts store or discount department store. It's made to try to fit many vehicles so I have to fold in the flaps on each side to fit my windshield. This causes many parts to be exposed to the sun. Custom fit shades off over 90% sun blockage of the windshield.
