One other car you might find would be an older Camry, pre 1995 or so. They're a little larger, but with the 4-cylinder are pretty efficient and generally reliable.

Okay y'all, I am SOOOOO freakin' excited! Just got a great deal on a 1996 Prizm. I mean amazing. And now I have AC, and can park without a 50 point turn!

Thanks for the help in the thread!!!
That is a good car, as it is essentially a Toyota Corolla. How much did you pay for it?

$600!!!!
That's about what my textbooks for this semester cost (well, if I'd paid full price for them)!!
It has a little fender ding and needs a turn signal cover but that's it! I can get the turn signal cover at a salvage yard for under $50. It sure as heck "needs" less than my dead van in the driveway (which I hope to now sell for parts)... drives nice, quiet, cold a/c, fairly new tires, tinted windows, came with a full tank of gas, even a decent stereo! I am just on cloud 9 today for sure.

That is a really good deal. I also paid $600 for my 1991 Escort, but it has no AC, no power steering, lots of dents, etc. However, it is very reliable as I have been driving it over 2 years. But I must admit, you got a lot better deal than I did.
Cool deal. The Prizm should run just as well as a similar Corolla, and doesn't sound bad for $600.

Well I think I got REALLY lucky and I practically flew across town to see it when the guy finally called me back. I was biting my nails waiting for that call! LOL! It was very nerve-wracking, as I was sure someone would buy it before I got there. I consider myself a super bargain hunter but I think this is my best deal yet (I was thrilled to get my 95 Civic before for $1500!)...
