The G35 has two major issues: Brakes (350Z chasis but not its brakes) and CD player (numerous issues $2000 to take care of). Just go through craigslist for research, you'll find a load of G35's for sale but you will rarely find a GS (Lexus) for sale.

The Lexus comparable to the G35 is the IS, not the GS.

The M35 is comparable to the GS.

The Avalon is best compared to the ES - same core platform (Camry base). The Avalon is stretched though and has far more interior toom.

I worked for Infiniti for 6 years so I'm partial. If you like the American "sofa on the road" ride and a "floaty" drive, buy a Lexus (they are nice cars). The Infiniti has a more European, stiffer ride and handling (also nice cars). In any case the most important thing when you are purchasing a pre-owned car is to have a pre-purchase inspection. If you are buying from an individual, be sure they have their service records as well. It can save you money by allowing you to see if the car has been well maintained.

I was recently in the market for a CPO car, and both the G37 and IS350 were on my list. I didn't end up with either (got a CC 4motion instead), but out of the two, I much preferred the IS350. The backseat is tight, but it drives very well, and I think is quite sporty while being luxurious (the two I drove had sport and premium packages). The G37's interior just didn't feel quality, which is why I ultimately struck it from my list.

Go with a G37x. AWD is great in rain and snow/ice. Plus it's quick and priced right. The IS350 is comparible, a little quicker, but only RWD. If you live where there is snow, you will love the G37x. I the IS250 (AWD avail) is a turd.

I would also put the Cadillac CTS on your test drive list. You can get it with AWD as well.

He said "stay away from American junk", not the Avalon in particular. And besides, using your and his logic, I guess you should now stay away from Avalons, too?

Theyre more comparable to the Lexus lineup... cushy, soft, etc. While Lincoln has some decent straight-line performers, they dont carve corners like a G35 or G37. The new Lincolns will start to include the new 365hp Ecoboost twin turbo V6 engines, same as the one found in the 2010 Taurus SHO. If you want a cushy ride, distinctive looks, and rapid acceleration (with the Ecoboost), then I highly recommend Lincoln.

I'd go with the G37 myself. Much roomier than the IS350 (particularly in the rear) and if you are looking for a drivers car the G37 is the way to go. Far better steering feel (versus the numbness you get from Lexus) and tighter suspension are all big pluses .
