take your 2k, put it down on a 3 year old malibu, or trailblazer, or even a ford 500, you will be much happier
Trailblazer? come on, the OP can do better than those bulky messes on wheels for 10K. For 10 grand I would go for a 4-5 year old Civic or something that burns rice and saves you money. Something fun to drive, maybe a 2004 Mustang with a V6. You can get a more exciting car for 10 grand than a Malibu. Fo sho.
<wondering what makes the TB a "bulky mess" ? they're a VERY solid vehicle and well built. never mind i get 24mpg on the interstate with mine and can drag 4,000 lbs anywhere i want it and still get 13mpg on the freeway 91k very problem-free miles doesn't hurt my argument a bit either

Sorry, they just look bad in my opinion. Nothing even remotely sharp about them. I test drove one back in 2004 and it was very uncomfortable. I'm sure it can drag 4000 pounds and it's a tough American made machine, still very tubby and dated looking to me, not to mention GM seemed in a hurry by making that undercarriage spare tire highly visible. In it's class I would take the Exterra, Escape or something with more definition in it's styling. That's all really.
I live in the city so I park on the street, although I could go in the driveway with another car if necessary. My job is about 9 miles total (to and from) each day. I want the most fuel efficient vehicle I can afford. I don't haul anything aside from store purchases, and I live in NE TN. Thanks for the help everyone!

OK, and if you are set on a new car it is pretty easy to find what is available for $10K on the various sites available, but your choices will be few.
I side with folks that advise a used econobox with low mileage, those are easy to find on the internet too.
Further outside the box, I would suggest a bicycle for such a short commute.

LOL I am all for the bike too... 9 miles you could drive a car that gets 8-10mpg and still it would be fuel efficent for you I mean you burn wpould just over 2 gallons a day so you could go a whole month with a 60 gallon tank and get away drving a huge 70's boat with a big block.
For such a short commute, one of the only cars that will more or less warm up so quickly would be an old VW aircooled bug.
I think you are completely nuts to buy a new car for this particular application.
