OK. I was going to take a stab at it over the weekend.
When I first encountered the vehicle I did an oil change on it and flushed the radiator...typical stuff like that. While I was under it I noticed a dangling ground wire that was coming off the battery. There were three ground wires. One went to the motor, one to the frame, and then this other one that was off. So I polished up a place on the inner fender and bolted it on there. This didn't really have any affect on the flickering that I noticed.
It's kind of minor. I mean you can see it but it's not so bad that somebody who isn't anal about cars would notice. I'm thinking this may be a precurser to the voltage regulator taking a dump....but I'm going to make sure I've got good grounding and check my connections first.
Soooo....question....if it IS the voltage regulator is there any way I can replace just that or would I have to get a whole alternator?
same story on my moms 2004 chevrolet trailblazer with a 4.2 i6
my 05 never did it, but then again i do have an aftermarket rebuilt alternator that was like 30 amps higher output than factory and a battery with 200more cca's... but it didnt do it before that swap either
No the headlights flicker too...but only when idling.
According to the tach it idles at about 600 rpm. When I rev it to about 1000rpm (barely resting my foot on the pedal) it pretty much doesn't flicker anymore.
I looked it over and had autozone do a check on it and everything seems good on it. Checked all my grounds and connections too...nadda.
you can try a higher CCA battery if you can find one that fits, a higher amperage output alternator, and larger battery and starter cables if you wish, it may help... an HID conversion is sure to help as well
