I think the BMW is a 1988. The 1987 was the older model, I think. If there is some wiggle rooom on the year, I would vote for the Jag. The older XJ6's 1986 and before looked awesome. If not then the MB or BMW. Both have "classic" styling.
In my neck of the woods, this is when imports started to become popular with the well to do as opposed to Cadillac or Lincoln.
Imported cars from the late 80s... all of these were good cars, some costly to maintain though... I am going to do a early 1990s poll later (maybe 1992?).
1987 Mercedes 560SEL
1987 BMW 735iL
1987 Jaguar XJ
I'll take the Mercedes 560SEL, I've always liked the gas versions of the full sized Mercedes-Benz S Class, especially the 560 version, I love how spacious the back seat room is in these cars, I once rode in a 1989 Mercedes Benz 420SEL.
I prefer the coupe version of the Mercedes, the 560 SEC:
Always loved those cars. For 4 doors, I'd take the EARLY '87 version of the Jaguar, which was still the Series III car, not the XJ40 you posted.
I've had 2 '86 Series III cars and once you take care of a couple common problem areas, they are actually quite reliable, comfortable, and excellent road-eating luxury sedans. My last two XJ6s in this pic:
560's were great in that vintage! They were really the last MB's you could pile miles on without dropping wheelbarrows of cash off at your mechanic's garage! They were the last of the chrome bumper cars too. The weird part is the 420 was only a few HP less than the 560 (like 20 or 25).
Unfortunately most of these cars got driven into the ground, they were cheap to run so they got used up. They also had some awful color combinations like gold/brown/green exteriors and they offered a red interior that looked like it belonged in a Miami Vice episode!
1986-1991 models were all pretty identical. The 89's got a 2nd airbag and the cassette eject was motorized instead of spring loaded in/out. 1991 was the final year then they made the new body in '92 with the Princess Diana model with tons of technology like double pane glass, motorized door pulls that sucked the doors shut, 3 inch electric masts on the truck (they rose up when in reverse so you could see the corners of the trunk) and even a power rear view mirror (yes a joystick that moved the rear view mirror mounted to the windshield). Those newer cars came with a V12 in the 600 series that really was an impressive ride but today they trade on eBay for less than $10,000.....expensive to maintain.
I was in grade school in the 80's and a friends mom had the Jag. Wow, what a car! Out of those three its the looker of the bunch. It was a 1986 with the round headlights which looked better IMHO.
Just FYI, that's not a 1987 Jaguar XJ in the picture. It's not even 1988, it's 1994 or so!
Never mind, robrobrob beat me to it. & he's right, that's not a 1987 BMW 7-series.
