Volkswagon Jetta Diesel. Anyone have one?
Looks pretty good to me all the way around but am wondering what the actual fuel mileage is and how it works for you.
I would love to have something that gets over 40 mpg on the highway.

I have 2 modded TDI New Beetles. VW diesel is amazing. I can cruise at 120mph and my car gets 55mpg at normal highway speeds. If you want to learn a lot in a short time, check out this site.

Offer them OTD (out the door) what the sticker says. Not the additional dealer add-on sticker, the factory sticker. If it's $25K on the sticker, that's what I would shoot for.  That way you're getting the tax and license paid for at least. Don't expect huge profits on those smaller cars like pickups. hth's |

They aren't cheap. BUT, if you maintain one of these properly, you can expect to get around 500K miles. Maybe more.
I've never bought a new one, always used. Partly because I want to modify the car. It has to be out of warranty. Never had an automatic either, always standard.
Go out and drive one or three. They are bigger than you think and hold a lot of stuff. TDI's aren't always easy to find and the dealers know this and charge accordingly. |

What year are you talking?
I had an older VW diesel. Always got about 45 mpg, except in the dead of winter when I ran #1 fuel in it.
Basically though, VW didn't change their diesels that much over the years. Refined them & did things with electronics, but it's the same basic engine.
And they're great engines! |

In general VW automatics are not the most long-lived, trouble free slushboxes out there.
Me, I'd definitely get the manual in this car.

Absolutely! If you're looking for good mileage, you go with the 5-speed. Never the automatic. |

5-speed is more fun to drive too. Also less chance it will be stolen. Few people know how to drive them........
