Well... The new Jetta looks just like a Corolla. Maybe people are getting confused.

I do wish, however, that VW could market their Polo & Lupo TDIs in the United States. 70 mpg & 90 mpg seems awfully appealing.

I hope Toyota enjoyed their short stint on top.

Bon voyage, Toyoduh! And go make something entertaining, I command you!

VW produces vehicles with worse reliability, initial value and resale value than Toyota.

Maybe, but they are a lot more fun. And I have gotten ~400,000 mostly trouble free miles out of the two I bought new.

Which ones are more fun? The bread and butter Jetta/Passat (where most of the money is made) are just as boring as their Japanese counterparts. I do like the GTI and some of VW's sportier European line up.

My first was a basic '78 Rabbit, way more fun than comparable Hondas or Toyotas at the time.

My second, and current, is a 89' GTI. Enough said.

I think the Jettas are more fun and have more soul than the comparable Hondas and Toyotas now, I have driven several, sedans and wagons, and like them. I have only driven a Passat wagon once and liked it, but not enough to compare. Except, try finding a comparable wagon from the Asian companies.
