This extends its range to 400 miles and obviates the need to plan your schedule around having access to a plug and 8 hours to kill whenever the battery gets low.

And fully electric vehicles help the environment how?
Depending on the source, distance and type of fuel used to power electric plants, electric vehicles may not be any less polluting than PZEVs and the like.
Just because their are no tail pipe emissions does not make it clean.
Then you have the issue of the batteries, what goes into them and how much environmental damage is done in the production AND disposal of those materials. Not to mention certain issues for emergency responders when one gets splattered all over the highway.
I am all for progress in vehicle propulsion alternatives, but lets not get carried away here and think the electric vehicles are the silver bullet.
There is no silver bullet.

Not to mention the fact that none of these products are on the market for us to test and verify these mileage claims.

I'd buy an electric car to save money on fuel not to be "green".

Buy a small, light, petrol car, simple as that! Get incredible mpg's (Ive seen 80mpg in some Euro models) and not have to worry about running accessories that will drain the batteries. And the best part is you can use a petrol car any time you choose. No need to slink home and plug the "car" in so you can drive it many hours later. That would be real classy if you had to get to the hospital or something and your stupid electric car wasnt charged and didnt have the power to make it there.
