Because when your 80+ year old parents are run off the road and into the end of a cement barrier such as mine was Monday morning, you realize they wouldn't be alive if they had been in a small car! I think it's time to force the building of larger cars and longer frontends on trucks. As for the guy in the little car that caused the wreck, his funeral was this morning.

We have 2 Excursions and a Prius. What does that say about us?

As for the size, we do a bit of towing and traveling with 2 children (soon to be 3) and 2 dogs often. Plus we love doing things with our friends! We have a blast when everybody is piled into the Ex.

Healing, good thoughts to both your Mom and Dad. How scary for your family!

my reason: because I can!
I don't particularly like the idea of others telling me what I should or shoudln't drive and have always preferred larger vehicles. (or smaller gas guzzlers like my Jeep)

****

Also, if it makes you feel any better, I do take the bus to and from work every Monday-Friday because it's quicker than driving and looking for parking, so my large vehicles are only really used on weekends...but I don't feel the need to apologize for my habits.

Give Obama and Pelosi some time and they'll enact taxes, fees, and penalties like in Europe on people who drive a vehicle with an engine larger than 2.0 L, congestion fees (aka tax), higher sales tax rates on larger vehicles, and possibly an annual vehicle tax which goes up based upon the size and fuel economy of the vehicle instead of the value of the vehicle. Once they get to that point, then you'll see us driving bicycle slow specks.

There should be more attention spent on car and truck bumpers. they should all be standard, and at a set height. Or they become battering rams. cars now days, don't even have what I would call a bumper, just a crush zone. I don't want a crush zone, I want a Bumper, with coil over springs.

+1 for not being caught in a Prius. I'd feel safer on a bicycle.
That's certainly a good point. It was a huge one it was only $5K and Alabama doesn't have lemon laws. So I've thought about that too maybe I like the chance to have a status symbol without the actual status.

Either way I like my truck. I like sitting up high despite the challenges of parallel parking in DC.

A better question is, why do people in other countries bid on U.S. made big gas guzzling cars on ebay ?? Consider, gas in Scandanavia is about equivalent to about $15.00 a gallon, and they bid on old Lincolns & Caddy's and other big tanks.
