I did like the 1970's BMW engine design, but not always the way they handled, more so in snow. On a dry clean road they ticked along just fine, but in poor weather in the same time frame I'ld take a Saab 99 or a Volvo 140 any time. oddly the Volvo 140 wasn't as good on snow as the 122 Amazon series were. I made one of them into a 2 door pick up and made a poor mans plow and it worked pretty well.
The BMW was a bit to boxey to suit me as well, but they ran fine. I liked the way the valves adjusted too. The cams in the rocker system was nice.
I don't like the shim over or shim under bucket adjusting method a bit.
Well, I guess I'll make a short list too. Note that I'd want to see new design interpretations based off/inspired by the old model, not just old one put in production again.
How about a REAL BMW 3-series. One that emphasizes light weight with a silky smooth engine and comes with a fantastic suspension, brakes and a REAL manual transmission. You know the cars BMW used to build before they got all yuppified.
Ah, the good ol' days. BMW's lost its touch.

Barely. That thing is still a pig in comparison.

When I talk light weight, I want sub 3k pounds, more like 2,800. BMW is now more concerned with status, image and electronic gimmicks then they are about the visceral driving experience.
Again, the old one will be missed. (E30 Chassis, anyone?)
I would also like to add one of Mitsubishi's most reliable vehicles ever, the Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup. Wouldnt mind seeing that back in the lineup to compete with the Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, etc.
