Huh?, unless you live in Oregon you have to pump your own gas. It has always been that way, at least since 1991 when I was 16 and started driving.
Don't forget New Jersey. In New Jersey, you can not pump your own gas, every gas station is full service. On my first visit there, I did not know that and had a very awkward moment with the Gas Station attendant and my friends never bothered to tell me either. They were laughing so hard as I and the attendant were about to get into it!!!

LOL....Being originally from NJ...I know exactly what you are talking about. And it works in reverse. The first time my sis came to visit me here in Tx. from NJ, she pulled into a station and waited...and waited, and waited...And being from NJ...honked the horn a few times for good measure. She said she was furious no one came out to pump her gas! LOL....And...she didn't know how to pump her own gas, so came back home to get me...
I give the thums up when I see a woman pumping her own gas. I dont know how to pump gas. maybe if I drove I would learn too. your story was cute. have a great day.
I guess I don't get the whole thing of not knowing how to pump your own gas. Not talking about just the OP here, but everybody who says that. I can't think of anything that could be easier on a vehicle. If you have the ability to drive the vehicle, you sure have the capacity to figure out how to take off the gas cap and squeeze the handle to fill it up.
Not rocket science; open filler door, twist off cap (If you can open a bottle of water or soda, you can do this), put gas nozzle in hole, squeeze handle to pump gas, stop when either dollar amount is reached by letting go of the handle or when it automatically shuts off when full, put handle back on pump, replace gas cap, close filler door, pay, drive off.

Ive pumped women gas at times, not because they didnt know how, because they didnt want thier hands to smell like gas.
if they are out and dressed nicely, I dont mind.
Id love the option of dropping in and getting a diet coke and 10$ gas without geting out the truck.
Thanks for telling how to pump gas. why I dont know how to is because I have never had to do it.
