Default Never

I was a die-hard GM owner from 1970 to 1990. The 1990 Oldsmobile spent more time in the shop than on the road, despite dozens of problems GM abandoned me. After the warranty expired I spent $ 4500 on repairs in one year. It even broke sitting still on the consignment lot, finally sold it after paying for even more repairs (5th fuel pump).

Now on a 4th Infiniti (G37) after two I30`s and one G35. The I`s had nothing, nada go wrong with them in the 3 years each I owned them. The G35 had a couple of recall items and went through brakes like crazy - but didn`t bother me because the brakes were so good.

Just had the G37 for a short time, but it is averaging 9.6 l per 100K - best of the all the Infiniti`s despite 328 HP. It is the fastest car I have ever had - even faster than the 425 HP 1970 Camaro.

I was 19 when I got the Camaro, and I must admit this new G makes me feel that young again.

But more important I don`t expect to take it to the shop every couple of weeks to have something fixed.

Sorry for the rant, but I swore in 1997 I would never, never, ever set foot in a `Detroit` car again.

Dude, you are STILL with this. You're hilarious. I'm actually starting to like you. But, are you sure your exhaust is not leaking in the 'merican made POS?

Absolutely. I have sworn off any car not built in a UAW shop. If there was ever a time to buy American this is it

Funny you should mention exhaust. Many '70s German cars (Mercedes, Audis) had trouble with their exhaust systems.

We have one of each. Chrysler just rolled over to 200k, Toyota is at about 125k.

The Toyota's fan recirculation door controller broke, but otherwise has been flawless.

The Chrysler needed a transmission repair (warranty) and a coolant pipe (DIY). Maintenance is a bit high-- it has chewed through a stack of front brake rotors, and most of the front-end bushings have been replaced once. All of that was DIY, too. For 200k miles I can't really complain.

On the other hand, the Toyota is not as solidly built-- exterior/interior fit, finish and integrity are much better in the Chrysler. The Toyota is also not a comfortable vehicle after more than 1 hour.

Considering everything, I can't say I prefer Detroit vs Japan right now. If I didn't want to get my hands dirty and wanted to settle for a boring-looking car, I'd go with Japan.

I'm the other way around.

I used to be all about imports, especially Toyota. Nowadays, my stable is 75% domestics and 25% German. Sorry, but Asian/Japanese cars are so boring. Nothing like my 400-hp and 505-hp GMs. My next plan for acquisition is a 321-hp German and either a 600-hp Dodge or a 556-hp GM.

I'm never going back to Japanese cars.

Ford has proven that they can build good, even great cars in non UAW shops. The Mexican built Fusion is proof positive of this!

The Japanese makes are building excellent non UAW vehicles in the US now. Their workers are making good pay for good work. The best workers can go farther and better themselves within the company. The workers that have a UAW type attitude get fired, and people with good work ethics take their place.

The UAW is synonymous with greed, corruption, and mediocrity. I give 95% of the blame for the crap that spews out of Detroit to the UAW. I will NEVER buy a UAW built car again.

Are you simply dense? Yeah, must be it.

My American car, a '63 mercury Comet, has a Lexus V8 going into it. My daily driver is a BMW.

I'm simply not a closed minded fool like you. Get a clue.
