Because that's prior to Toyota's nosedive. The Camry was redesigned for 07 and the quality between the 06's and 07's differs hugely.

Yeah but 2005 Avalon is also on the list.

I the end its still a qauetion of what caused the problem and toyota seems to actaully be ahead of teh game compared to most recalls. I remmeber my ford fire recall;it took year and then the disconnected it for a long time before they actually had a fix.The I remember the ford tank explosion in which they fixed police cars and left the others.

Maybe people would cut Toyota a little slack if they didn't promote themselves to be holier than Thou.

But the die hard Toyota fans are not nearly as vain as the good ol domestic boys.

About time! Long before unintended acceleration stories hit the mainstream, we were discussing this over at one of the auto boards I am a member of. It really wasn't hard to connect the dots...people having issues were those who had models with a drive-by-wire system. All 2004+ models.

Toyota spent the better part of a year dragging its feet to issue a proper recall, and now they have two dead families and mounds of negative press to show for it.

Hardly. Cases of unintended acceleration date back to 2006. NHTSA began investigating the following year. The results were inconclusive, but I find it very hard to believe that Toyota was completely unaware that it was the drive-by-wire system until now, 2010. I guarantee they knew about it, but they were hoping that by downplaying the problem it could be swept under the rug and a recall avoided. The runaway Lexus changed everything....that is when Toyota moved from downplaying the issue to damage control.

I had a feeling all along that this was the issue. I have driven these cars (09-10 Camrys and Avalons) as rentals and did not like the way the acceleration operated.

"If it aint broke, dont fix it"... what was wrong with the type of acceleration they used in the 80s-90s when they made some of the best cars in the world?

dunno about that one. IMO, people blindly sing the praises of Toyotas and Hondas way more than i hear Detroit fanboys thump their chests.

Keep an eye on the list. As I mentioned in the other thread, it will (or should) grow. They say no Lexuses are involved, but we all know that's BS.

Here's the official recall notice:

Toyota Vehicles : Toyota Files Voluntary Safety Recall on Select Toyota Division Vehicles for Sticking Accelerator Pedal / Toyota

They say to apply the brakes gradually if this occurs, but why would they not say anything about shifting to Neutral? It just seems to be the more logical (and safer) means to bringing the car to stop the acceleration. I've never driven an auto Toyota. Can you NOT shift into Neutral while moving?

Mike
