If you could buy a full sized pickup truck which one would you get?
None of the ones listed, for sure.
I need a truck that will haul 30 or 40 bales of hay. Therefore, I need a 3/4 tone, at least, so it would be a Dodge CTD 2500.
If I was buying a "toy truck", it would be a Dodge Powerwagon from the mid to late '70s, preferably with the 440 and 4 speed tranny, Club Cab, short box. Then I might consider putting 3/4 ton axles and springs under it.
I did that once, it made a real nice truck. Sure wish I hadn't sold it, even though it was a 360 with auto tranny.
are we talking new trucks? it would be the dodge, hands down, since we're talking light duty
if i could own any truck, i'd own my 86 chevrolet again, k10 with a healthy 350 and a sm465/208
if i could build any truck and funds were no issue, i'd put a 6valve mechanical cummins in an 86 bonus cab chevrolet with an allison trans, a divorced 205 and big exhaust
My experience with the Chevy trucks are that the engine (except for the old 305) and tranny are sound, but the everything else is crap. After a few years, the interior falls apart (headliner, door handles, seats), paint starts peeling (my 92 Silverado), and several other things that have me discouraged from ever buying a Chevy again. Not to mention the fact that the dealer nor the company would fix the problems, which left a sore spot with me. Their quality may have changed in the past few years, but I wouldn't know because I quit buying them.
I presently own a 2003 Ford F250 crewcab with the 7.3L diesel. It has held up over the years and I have not had one problem with it at all. There were 2 safety recalls and the local dealership took care of that immediately. It is the best truck I have ever owned. I would like to add that I am not the only one who likes my Ford, as some illegal Mexicans decided to steal it so they could bring more illegals into our country.
I am not up to date on the new Dodge trucks, but someone did mention a Powerwagon earlier. I do own an older Dodge, which is a 1952 military version of the Powerwagon. This is a great truck and has a history, but this truck is not built for speed nor comfort.

The 360 from the Mid to late 70s would run like a raped ape. That was one of Dodge's better moments. Well the 318 was an excellent motor. But the 360 was even better. Then the went and screwed it up That was best period to have a dodge engine.
My current ride... a 98 F150 regular cab, 5 speed and a 4.6 is an excellent pickup.
def want the F-150, but I have the ridgeline, as parking in my neighborhood is really really awful, so that extra foot or 2 for the F150, really does make the difference between getting in a parking spot, and not....
I like the ridgeline though, it does what I need it to do.
I have to agree, to a point.
I own a business also that requires a truck to be a truck not some flashy boulevard cruiser.
A 2500 0r 3500 with a Cummins #1,
chev#2,
ford#3.
Half ton trucks have became unable to work.
Just take a look at the 2011 f150 with the "electric steering" they recommended that a snow plow NOT be installed. I don't care if the tow rating goes up or not a 5lug, non floating axle has it's limitations.
There cars configured to look like a truck.

i drive a first generation (smaller) toyota tundra and i love it. it does what i need, which is off road and hauling, not so much towing. i have high hopes for its reliability, but we will see.
if i needed something bigger, and gasoline.. I'd get a Ford F-150. Maybe a Chevy. I think Dodge is junk.
I don't know a damn thing about diesels, so... no idea.
