You know, no one on here can diagnose your car's problem. You'll get ten different opinions from ten different posters. If you don't feel comfortable with a particular shop's diagnosis then find another shop or two to look at your car.
Sounds like you're just waiting for someone to tell you what you want to hear.

A forum is a place to DISCUSS things. I see nothing wrong with somebody going to the automotive section of the forum to get help/info on an automotive related question.

I live in Portland, Oregon until next month. I'm moving back to the East Coast.

It really depends on the kind of driving, the surface that you are driving, and quite possibly the weather in your area. In my part of the world the roads are fairly smooth. The weather is similar all year long. No ice to toss salt at. In mild conditions with normal driving the shocks may last longer than in places where they will get more use or have to face icy, salted roads. I am getting that from the information provided with a couple of my cars. For example in Southern California you don't have to replace the timing belt every 60,000 miles in my car. You do have to inspect it though and determine if it needs to be replaced. My thought is that if it is working and it looks good then let it go.

I totally agree with your statement, but you obviously don't know the reason for what I said.

Since I run a fleet of ultra cheap cars, I buy USED Bilsteins, and they go many hundred thousand miles (on a light vehicle) + they are lifetime guaranteed.
I like a firm ride and do a lot of performance handling driving (Curvy Mtn roads + Switch-backs enroute to town, 2-4x / day).
