Disappointing news to people like me, who are waiting to test drive one of these trucks when they arrive on dealer lots. It was supposed to be in March, but this casts serious doubt on that estimate:

30mpg? I will believe it when I see it, that seems way too optimistic for a truck! but I do like the aggressive looks.

The fuel economy sounds unrealistically high, but imagine putting a 4-cylinder diesel engine in something like a Ford Ranger. That's kind of what the Mahindra pick-ups are supposed to be.

I am interested in this truck, too, but I think I'll have a hard time getting used to its looks. If I could get that diesel engine (or a similar one) in a truck like my Colorado crew cab, I'd certainly jump at that opportunity. A small diesel pickup is the one thing that seems to be lacking in the automaker's U.S. line-ups.

Amen!

Why they don't get this is beyond me!

I rarely buy new, but if a suitable diesel set-up was available I would be ordering one... or, more likely, waiting to get on used.

That thing is completley BUTT ugly ! The good thing is Mahindra has understood the need for a small truck with a diesel, one thing our Det. 3 don't seem to get. Although I'm sure it will never make it to the states, for some reason this country for the most part hate diesels. Then stack on all the EPA regs and it's not surprising the auto companies don't even want to deal with it.
Just look at the Smart car, everywhere else in the world it gets a small diesel motor and the car gets 70mpg , by the time it makes it to the states it has a gasser motor in it and only gets 30 something mpg...what a joke.

cripes, if I wanted an ugly little truck like that, I would find a mid 70's Mazda. Looks like this Mahindra took their styling cues form that time frame.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I used to think the Mahindra pick-ups were ugly, but I've come around. I don't really care anymore. The whole reason I would consider a Mahindra truck is the 30 mpg 4WD. I'm not waiting for Detroit to catch up. If Subaru brings their diesels to the US soon enough, I'll probably jump on one of those instead.

Yeah, looks are soooo important in a workhorse truck that gets 30 mpg. Geesh!

A "workhorse truck?" You must have a totally different concept of what a workhorse of a truck is than mine. A payload of 2700 pounds is hardly a workhorse, that is a very light duty mid- size truck. And the price starts at $22,000.

Shoot the light duty Ford F150 starts at $21,800 and has a payload of just under twice that, while delivering only 8MPG less on the highway.
