Since automatics out-perform and have equivalent or better gas mileage these days, it's only a matter of time.

For me, for a newer car, a fun car, it's stickshift or pound sand. So what if the flappy paddles are faster? A proper manual trans is more engaging and more fun.

Agreed.

I don't really follow many of those super cars, but I hear some autos can shift in under 100 milliseconds. No way anyone is shifting that fast.

Luckily in countries like Mexico manuals are still prevalent. I don't know what the breakdown is there, but I'd say that atleast 80% of cars there have a standard transmission. The main reason = they are cheaper to build.

A manual, to me, is about the level of control and feel, I don't really care if it's faster or more economical than an Auto.

On certain vehicles an auto makes sense, on many others a DSG type box will be great, but on certain types of cars, I'd buy manual even if they cost more and used twice the fuel.

I like to stir my own gears, thank you.

My work truck is an auto, and it is convenient, but it is for work, not fun.

Cheaper to repair, too.

While it is true that more and more manufacturers are getting away from manual transmission, B.M.W. still seem committed to providing them for customers.

After many happy years of owning Mercedes Benz autos, I switched to B.M.W. for just this reason, and have been happy since.

B.T.W. sometimes it is fun to Valet park, only to have the attendants not be able to move the vehicle, and to be requested to park it myself.

I've had that a couple times with my Volvo ... nowadays, I skip valets, considering they aren't going to care about letting the turbo spin down or anything.

That, and crap like this ...

YouTube - Hotel Guests Cars Valet Parking Fail

The other stumper ... having to engage reverse by lifting the lockout ring, then left and up.
