Besides, as sad as it is that 50 people have died in "out-of-control" Toyotas since 2002, 3000 people die every YEAR in this country because someone is dicking around on a mobile phone. Where is the outcry over this more deadly behavior? Where are the politicians spouting rhetoric about how the evil cell phone companies need to implement features which prevent any mobile phone functionality in a moving vehicle?
And don't forget all the people killed due to drunk or high people out driving. In the county I live in we have had a remarkable number of young people killed in drunk driving accidents.
But like in the this case, I'm not buying all of it. Apparently this problem goes many quite a few years yet all the sudden this became a problem late last year? .
This case may be fake, but:
There is a difference between "just started happening" and "it's been happening for awhile, but people are just starting to notice."
jalopnik has an article that says the guy is thousands of dollars in debt and has not made payments on his prius in months. SO while I think the scenario is possible, he really might be faking this for the money.

The shifting is electronic and the computer is completely in control. After the car was slowed below 50 MPH, he was able to shift the transmission, NOT BEFORE.... Now please don't embarrass yourself any further when you have no clue what you are talking about.
