Sure. I am gonna sit there and let him come at me with a knife. Of course you would have handled it differently and tried to reason with a pissed off jerk coming at you with a knife.
When that happens to you and if you survive the incident please, feel free to post it.
BTW there was not going to be a gunfight, there was only gonna be one shot fired.
You obviously posted this because you want people to fawn and coo over how big and brave and manly you were to confront someone with your big bad gun. Sorry I don't do that. You used your weapon in an improper manner after stopping when you could have just driven by. Chances are you forced your way into the lane to begin with and that's what started the angry gesturing. I have a carry permit and there's no way this sitatuon warranted bringing out the weapon.
He had a knife, so what? Drive away it's no threat to you unless you're dumb enough to actually stop and get out of the car. So no I don't think you were
brave or manly or wise to do what you did. I think both you and the
other driver are reckless and dangerous people.
Ok, I am not one to argue. I was at fault. I should have let him come at me and cut me a new one, do damage to my car, then call the cops and wait for ambulance.
Next time I'll do just that.
Road Rage Incident.
You didn't have to get out of your car at all. He can't stab through your car windows with a knife unless you have a rag-top convertible. He was hindering your passage by blocking your way and that's a crime, so he could have been arrested on that alone.
If you had a cell phone the only thing for you to do is to dial 911.
I think what brought you out of your car was the insult he hurled at you.
He would have called you anything because he's ignorant. People's tempers are running hot at this time because of various stresses in their own lives.
Next time take your camera phone, start snapping pictures (taking video) of everything, and then call 911.

I find it disturbing that drivers feel the need to carry weapons with them. Thankfully, no one was hurt in this incident. And I was also wondering about "the universal sign for calming down", I've never heard of it. I would assume someone was telling me off with hand gestures. Better just to keep your hands down and drive on.
I find it disturbing you don't realize how dangerous it is out there.
Scenario: Your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and you're by yourself. You call for help but it will be 30 minutes to an hour before someone arrives. This car pulls in front you and two huge guys get out and start toward your car. They are rough looking and you know they are up to no good.

Wouldn't you want a gun then just in case?
I have kids. I don't believe in mixing the two, ever.

My girlfriend once got a flat tire driving cross country in the middle of nowhere. She is perfectly capable of changing her own tire but two big scary leather clad, chain and boot wearing Harley riders stopped. They changed her tire for her, politely addressed her as ma'am, and escorted her down the road about 35 miles to where she could get the tire repaired.
You can't judge the intent of people by how they look.

No kidding . BUT, what if you addressed to them that you didn't need any help and they continued to invade your space when you already politely told them to move on.
There you are dead, kids dead and your car stolen just because you felt it wasn't necessary to have a gun with you.
So Mr. Cat, did you tell him to "Go ahead, make my day!"?
I know, this is so cowboy as to be ridiculous. What kind of idiot gets out of a totally safe car with a gun to confront somebody with a knife?
This sounds like bad TV movie of the week writing to me.
