The unions have taken many hits and given up a lot. You can't do the job much cheaper with a non union workforce and still keep those flying cans in the air.
Yes you can. AMR will outsource much of the work and save money. If the outsourcing company has non union labor, they will do it cheaper. Also, the AMR unions required very expensive defined benefit pension plans. Almost every company in American has cancelled those plans and replaced them with defined contribution plans. Again, if the outsourcing company has a 401k instead of a defined benefit plan, they will save money and perform the same quality work at a lower price.
Government workers and union workers are almost the only people that have a (very expensive) defined benefit pension plan today.

The OP was claiming that the employee would have to give up profits .. not management.
And .. If you had read my entire post .. you would have read where Delta actually Gives Back .. sometimes Double what the employee puts in!
