AGDC - I suggest staying indoors or underground. If you have to go out wear a wide brimmed hat.
Greg, I would have thought that you of all people would have an issue with a drone flying over your house surveilling. I know you love Big Government, but I held onto the belief that you're not all that crazy about intrusion of your privacy. I guess I was wrong?
I do not "like big government" any more than you. I like effective government that protects most of us from public and private predators. I do not consider what I do in my back yard a privacy issue because I chose by living in a condominium development to share my back yard with other members of the condominium. If I owned a piece of land it would not be different. Yes, I would exclude trespassers as I do from my residence but I would not be worried about government surveillance. I know how those devices work and how to hide any illegal activities I may be indulging. Anything else I simply do not care about.
take out the 50's and the like and shoot them down.
It's bothersome to me all the equivocation (ie. helicopters) and apathy ("Drones? So what?!") that has been put forth on this forum. As if two wrongs make a right......as if there's nothing wrong with a drone that can read the same magazine you're reading undetected from miles above you.
I don't get it.
I prefer your stance to those who roll over to every whim that the government pushes.

Apathy has settled in big time with US citizens. Do nothing because it has no direct effect on you..yet. But when it does it will be too late.

Osama Bin Laden was surveilled using heat sensing equipment on a UAV. His heat profile was one of the ways they were able to discern that a tall individual was living in the compound. Unless you're cold and dead, you're not going to "hide any illegal activities I may be indulging" should the government decide you or your neighbors were a worthy target. And that's the point. Why would you willingly allow such an invasion of your privacy to be exported to your neighborhood without a care in the world?

thats easy, I do know a few people in the military that do fly drones in Afghanistan and they tell me that the height that they are flown at is normally 500ft-8000ft.
well in range of 50 bmg.

You don't get it do you? Farmland is not the issue....in fact....UAV test sites are scattered all across the United States, many of which are within spitting distance of major metro areas. Why? Because the FAA is preparing to integrate UAV's into the National Airspace System. Farmland is the least of our concerns.
Maybe I don't "get it", then again i'm not a paranoid conspiracy theorist either.
What I do "get" is that you assume these aircraft exist only to spy on you. Have you ever considered that they might have other uses as well?
One big one that comes to mind is public safety. I live in Colorado and right now, it's wildfire season. We have a great deal of sparsely populated mountain terrain that is heavily forested. A single lightening strike can start a wildfire, one that can easily get out of control. How better to locate a safety hazard, minimize damage and ultimately loss of life?

That's only one in a myriad of reasons.
Not only do you not get it, you put words in my mouth. Please refrain.
