Default found the crane in the fog

Why did he fly in the fog anyway? Did the obstruction have a warning strobe light at the top? Was the pilot informed of the minimum safe altitude?

Crane worker who had slept in and was over an hour later for work.. showed up just as it happened , and said on TV this morning that there wasnt foggy conditions...

It's the pilots responsibility to see and avoid obstacles.
