Plane overshoots runway in Bali, ends up in sea - CNN.com

I understood the plane broke into 2 pieces and landing in the water and only one person suffered serious injuries. Seems like a miracle to me!

Default Lion Air flight Overshoots Runway

I practically cried for a good 3 hours in front of customers and employees alike when my android alerted me to the incident. A brand new Boeing 737-900 ruined. *runs off in tears again*

It was a 737-800 not 900 and what an odd thing to say really... the important thing is that there were no fatalities! Planes can be replaced, people can't.

Later reports said the plane crashed before reaching the runway...

Quote:
Authorities initially said the plane overshot the runway before hitting the water, but Lion Air spokesman Edward Sirait later said that the plane crashed about 50 meters (164 feet) ahead of the runway. The weather was cloudy with rain at the time of the incident.
"It apparently failed to reach the runway and fell into the sea," said Sirait.Investigators Probe Lion Air Crash in Bali - ABC News
This is Lion Air's 4th crash in 16 months. Their record is so bad that they are not allowed to operate in European airspace.

Of course, it's pure coincidence that on Friday the FAA ordered inspections on a Boeing 737 tail part that could fail, causing loss of vertical control. I mean... just a coincidence, right? FAA orders inspections for 1,000 Boeing 737s - Sun-Times News

Or rather, undershoots apparently. Possible windshear and touchdown short of the runway...

yes, he went below minimum altitude...

the rules are clear, at minimum you level off unless you see flashing beacon, runway,... at minimum you give a look out of the window . in one second if you see only milk you add power and climb...

all pilots fly like that. only idiots give controll to a capt who may be focusing on something else, like charts...

if you do the approach, you do all... not only the easy part and give control to the captain at minimum not knowing what to do because he may be out of the loop... ... captain should have ordered a go around as well if he was focusing... cost less to divert or try another approach than putting your self in water.
