I was wondering do airlines pay the "sticker" price on a new plane from boeing or airbus?
or is the price negotiable or is there a discount if the airline places a large order?I'm assuming there is.
There is a LOT of negotiation over the prices airlines pay, payment terms, and schedules for delivery. These negotiations can go on for months, even years.
Another way to say it is... "sticker prices" are merely a starting point for negotiation.
Airlines pretty much never pay the "sticker" price for new aircraft.
This is a common topic that pops up on one of the biggest aviation forums on the web from time to time. If you take an airline's order, and divide the total number of planes purchased by the total purchase price to get a per unit figure, it's usually around 50% of the sticker price.
