What is the possibility it ditched in the water similar to the Hudson River flight, landed intact and sank before any distress or other signal could be sent? You'd have oil/fuel trails but little if any debris.

I find it incredible that in this day and age it can be missing for days. The first traces of AF447 were found after 3 days, and that is in a vastly bigger area in the remote Atlantic Ocean.

I know. And it's getting disturbing now. They saw the oil slicks but no sign of debris or just anything metallic?

Here are some theories on what actually could've happened (source - Yahoo news):

— Pilot disorientation. Curtis said that the pilots could have taken the plane off autopilot and somehow went off course and didn't realize it until it was too late. The plane could have flown for another five or six hours from its point of last contact, putting it up to 3,000 miles away. This is unlikely given that the plane probably would have been picked up by radar somewhere. But it's too early to eliminate it as a possibility.

— Failure of both engines. In January 2008, a British Airways 777 crashed about 1,000 feet short of the runway at London's Heathrow Airport. As the plane was coming in to land, the engines lost thrust because of ice buildup in the fuel system. There were no fatalities.

— A bomb. Several planes have been brought down including Pan Am Flight 103 between London and New York in December 1988. There was also an Air India flight in June 1985 between Montreal and London and a plane in September 1989 flown by French airline Union des Transports Aériens which blew up over the Sahara.

— Hijacking. A traditional hijacking seems unlikely given that a plane's captors typically land at an airport and have some type of demand. But a 9/11-like hijacking is possible, with terrorists forcing the plane into the ocean.

— Pilot suicide. There were two large jet crashes in the late 1990s — a SilkAir flight and an EgyptAir flight— that are believed to have been caused by pilots deliberately crashing the planes. Government crash investigators never formally declared the crashes suicides but both are widely acknowledged by crash experts to have been caused by deliberate pilot actions.

— Accidental shoot-down by some country's military. In July 1988, the United States Navy missile cruiser USS Vincennes accidently shot down an Iran Air flight, killing all 290 passengers and crew. In September 1983, a Korean Air Lines flight was shot down by a Russian fighter jet.

Now which sounds the most to be the most likable scenario?

You missed one;

The pilots are in on it, along with the 4 unidentified passengers. They got to cruising altitude then turned off all communications equipment including the altitude reporting equipment. Made a "u" turn then descended to below radar altitude (this is why there is no distress call), and with almost full tanks flew to a remote island airport several thousand miles away. The 4 unidentified passengers job was to keep the other passengers and the flight attendants under control while they fly away. The timing of the flight would be perfect for this. The entire flight is at night and on a Friday when most serious news stories are poorly reported.

I just heard that the authorities are researching the pilots back grounds because it's looking more and more like an inside job. The Co-pilot is only 27 yoa with only 2800 hours and had just transitioned to the 777 (his first jumbo size air frame).

After 9-11, it was discovered that terrorist wanted to steal an airliner and then fill it full of explosives or nuclear and then fly it into some major city.

What surprises me is how...HOW on earth can they let someone through with a fake passport? With all the security measures and crap we, the flyers have to deal with(and I am fine with them) they let someone with a fake passport ONBOARD? Isn't there some kind of bar code or some scan that can detect a fake? Like someone mentioned in this thread- fake passports are pretty commonplace in Thailand and indeed many third world countries which means it happens all the time-people boarding with fake passports. Do you get where I am getting with this?
If it indeed boils down to terrorism(which at this stage is all it looks like) then this could be another 9/11 of sorts. Now they will have some new technology for identifying real passports. More "racism" accusations, please arrive 5 hours prior to departure, please take a seat while your passport is stripped and scanned.

I mean think about it. The plane disappears from the grid. Poof! If not for the above mentioned scenario, the other tragic conclusion could be a bomb going off.

Either ways...tragic.

It doesn't seem strange to me they would be looking into the backgrounds of all the passengers and the crew. There are young co-pilots, that doesn't mean he had anything to do with this incident. Ya gotta be a young pilot before ya get to be an old one.

The press has nothing to do at this point but speculate and take photos of grieving loved ones. It makes me furious at these vultures taking pictures of the families so upset. But that's their standard operating procedure in tragedies.

So now they are saying, at 2:37GMT that an object suspected of belonging to missing plane has been found, Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority says a navy plane has found parts suspected of belonging to the Malaysian Airlines plane, Reuters reports. The sighting has not yet been confirmed by Malaysian Airlines, which said an hour ago that it was waiting for information from search and rescue teams.

That might have worked 30 years ago, but everyone and his grandmother has a cell phone these days and someone would have at least texted or got off a secret call.

"On Sunday afternoon, a statement issued in the name of a previously unknown group claimed that the disappearance of the plane was a political act aimed at the Chinese and Malaysian governments and referred to last week's attack in a Chinese train station by alleged Uighur separatists. It stopped short of a claim of responsibility. Malaysian officials said that they were unaware of any claim of responsibility but would investigate all possibilities."
