By shifting search locations, Australian authorities seemingly have concluded the Boeing Co. 777 carrying 239 people most likely followed a straight rather than a curved course during the last few hours before it mysteriously disappeared March 8, 2014, according to independent analysts who have been regularly updated on the investigation.
The Joint Agency Coordination Center, the Australian government agency in charge of the search, said a new "prioritized" search area in the Indian Ocean had been identified by the new analysis, at the southern end of the existing search zone.
The Australian-led search has been combing a 120,000 sq km area of seabed about 2,000km off the coast of Perth, using underwater drones and sonar equipment deployed from specialist ships.
What if everyone died of hypoxia or whatever way up high, and then the plane went down into some soft vegetation on the island that cushioned the impact?
Huh?
If everyone died and the aircraft just happened to be on autopilot and descending, then it would be travelling several hundred miles per hour. Sorry, there's no amount of soft vegetation that's going to absorb the kinetic energy of a 200-ton aircraft travelling along at 400+ mph.
If it was maintaining altitude with everyone dead then it would have continued on until it ran out of fuel, and then it would have fallen into a dive and there'd be nothing left but a crater and very small body parts - not people strapped in their seats in an intact fuselage.
In this day an age a massive 200 tons plane just vanished. I know there are many parts of the ocean that w haven't explored that are very deep but still the trajectory of that plane and the different probably area it might have gone down and the technology we have.
Kinda tough to wrap my head around that. The poor families of the victims. I can't even imagine their state of mind.
I just read about this today. If this is from the plane, at least it indicates a crash, not a stolen plane that secretly landed elsewhere. There's still no way to know what went wrong and caused the crash, though.

1) It is almost certainly from the missing Malaysian plane. Few 777s have been retired (and it's hard to see how a piece of a retired one would end up awash in the Indian Ocean) and only two hull-loss incidents have resulted in some parts being unrecovered - the missing plane, and the one shot down over Ukraine (and it's hardly likely that a piece of the latter ended up in the Indian Ocean).
2) This isn't the first piece to wash up in the Indian Ocean, so this really doesn't change much that was already known - that the aircraft almost certainly crashed in the sea.
3) Stolen? Outside of a bad plot for an equally bad movie, the odds of that being the fate of the aircraft were always vanishingly small.
