What the heck???
A fire from lithium batteries would lead to a fast disintegration of the airframe, one would think. A fire that knocks out communications, but allows the plane to continue flying for hours in the wrong direction, is tough to grasp. Still, anything is possible.

I still think the most obvious is still what happened. No clue how it happened or why we can't figure it out but I think this plane simply went down fast in the ocean and we just haven't found it yet.

I have heard this scenario mentioned a couple of days ago. For some reason the 'authorities' have been very quiet about what the plane was carrying, in addition to passengers.

Another theory has been that there was a gold shipment on board.

I read somewhere that the pilot's/co-pilot's house (the one with the simulator) was searched a couple of days ago as well. It turned up, initially, nothing of note.

Finally, the US Satellite system evidently tracked the plane into the Indian Ocean from what I read elsewhere. The guys running these satellite operations don't like to say too much (like with the Chinese and those three blobs in their pictures) about 'how they know' but they seemed pretty confident about 'what they know'. You have to know that we have the capability to track every flight of every airplane (and probably a LOT of other things) every moment of every day.

People know, or surmise. They are just not saying. Probably for 'security' reasons. But for the family of those involved, it just has to be a living hell. One week already!

That article says that Malaysia claims it asked neighboring countries for their radar data, but Indonesia and Thailand say they received no official request from them. So, now Malaysia will probably claim they never asked? Or what?

As for the pilot and co-pilots homes being searched, originally they did say they were searched, but now they are saying they were NOT searched, but they have people outside the homes. Great strategy.

I think you are right but the media and the interwebs are having a field day with this. There are some strange occurrences happening though .

Explain why a pilot who planned to do that, would turn off the responders and then fly the plane for 4+ more hours? (the pingers showed 4+ hours of intact plane after the responders were turned off and the pingers do not work under water)

Why a week later?

Simple as that. There is no radar coverage over the ocean.

Forgive me if I'm not aware of where the transponders are each located. Where are they located and if both are not in the cockpit, how can a co-pilot leave the cockpit completely unattended if the other pilot is in the restroom?

So they're still clueless, for the most part (except, apparently, for some satellite evidence), and no one's looking on land, yet.

Oh well. All we can do is stay tuned.
