One cannot be interacting more with the passengers than being responsible for their lives while they are in the aircraft, as are the pilots.
One might describe air traffic controllers along the same lines.
Piloting a plane is not a service position. Flight attendant is about serving the flying public. The two jobs have nothing in common. Piloting requires a lot of training and expertise. Flight attendant doesn't.

I disagree. Being a flight attendant requires a lot of training. They are responsible for the well-being of all onboard the aircraft. Their primary duty may be serving the passengers, but they are the vital to everyone's safety.

It's an entry-level job, though. To get the job, you don't need any prior training. To get a pilot's job, you do. The OP wouldn't be able to land a pilot's job just walking in off the street. He'd have a good shot at getting a flight attendant's job, though. No years of prior experience flying a plane required, no license required.

Fairly entry-level and no prior training needed, agreed. To be a pilot is becoming more and more difficult, sadly. I only disagreed on the responsibilities of the crew, which includes both in-flight and pilots.
