You have disgruntled employees at air line "A"....you have disgruntled employees at airline "B"...you mix them together and what do you get? Disgruntlement squared.

Since getting a SW Visa Card, we have been flying only SW. I really can not complain and I do not being nickel and dimed for everything. Granted, the cattle call is not fun but, for the most part, planes are on time. USAir always seems to have a delay. The last time we flew to Paris on AA from ORD, I felt that the planes were old, outdated , and the flight crew were the senior members. While not rude, they were certainly not enjoying their jobs. Flying is certainly not fun anymore, prefer to drive if we have the time.

Domestic air carriers are such crap in the States. Dear lord, I flew on Vietnam Air for a flight from Hanoi to Hue last week and it was cheaper and had way better service than almost any US carrier domestically(except maybe JetBlue).

Most other countries have but one or two carriers, that not only have no competition but also get government assistance by interest free loans, very low taxes, etc.

In the states tax rates approach 25% on your ticket.

Emirates is a great example. Not only did the local government build them a hub, they handed them money to equip their fleet. No American carrier can compete on those terms.

JetBlue is a great airline. Great customer service, great product. In the last quarter when most carriers were actually, for once, making some serious money, they cleared $4 million. $4 million in profit on $1.3 bil in revenue, a profit margin under 0.3%. Just not sustainable.
