Were they sneaking across or were they cleared to cross by a controller?

Most likely a miscommunication. From the looks of the nose-gear on the A-340, it looked like it was getting ready to roll for take-off. After I watched the video, it appears that the flight crew on the A-340 saw the Boeing 767-300 on a disastrous collision course so they spooled up the throttles rapidly to clear the runway, but thankfully the flight crew on the 767 aborted the landing and started the go-around procedure just in time. You can also tell there were strong cross winds at the time.

Like everyone else, I'm definitely thankful a catastrophic collision similar to the one at Tenerife in 1977 was avoided.

It didn't look like the sped up at all. Of course, the camera turned away to early to tell for sure. The other thing I notice is that if the co-pilot had looked, he would have seen the 767 on finals. The angle wasn't bad for him at all.

It's hard to tell, but if you look at frames 30 through 38 on the video, the A-340 was going a little faster that it normally does in a turn while taxiing, probably after the First Officer noticed they were getting into the path of the 767 after they were already on the runway, and they advanced the throttles to avoid collision, but then it appears the crew on the A-340 noticed the 767 had aborted the landing. You can also see in the screen image I captured from the video where the A-340's nose gear was awfully close to the lights on the right side of the runway, that might be one indication they were going a little fast for the turn. Or they wanted to take drastic action and get off the runway, but then decided not to after they saw that the 767's crew had aborted the landing and started the go-around procedure.

I'm surprised the first officer on the A-340 did not see the approaching 767 before they proceeded onto the runway, like you mentioned he should have had clear view of in-bound traffic, but I can't tell from the video if they stopped/held short of the runway prior to entering it.
