What's interesting is US carriers are required to have two people in the cockpit at all times. So if one needs to use the restroom I do recall seeing attendants go into the cockpit for those few moments. Apparently it's not a rule for many other countries.

Police have reportedly found an “item of significance†at the apartment of the co-pilot who crashed the Germanwing passenger plane into the Alps this week.
The item was NOT a suicide note.
28-year-old German Andreas Lubitz trained in the Phoenix, Arizona and is pictured here in San Francisco.
A German news website claims Andreas Lubitz was a Muslim convert.

According to Michael Mannheimer, a writer for German PI-News, Germany now has its own 9/11, thanks to the convert to Islam, Andreas Lubitz.
Translation from German:
All evidence indicates that the copilot of Airbus machine in his six-months break during his training as a pilot in Germanwings, converted to Islam and subsequently either by the order of “radicalâ€, ie. devout Muslims , or received the order from the book of terror, the Quran, on his own accord decided to carry out this mass murder. Converts are the most important weapon of Islam. Because their resume do not suggests that they often are particularly violent Muslims. Thus Germany now has its own 9/11, but in a reduced form. And so it is clear that Islam is a terrorist organization that are in accordance with §129a of the Criminal Code to prohibit it and to investigate its followers. But nothing will happen. One can bet that the apologists (media, politics, “Islamic Scholarsâ€) will agree to assign this an act of a “mentally unstable†man, and you can bet that now, once again the mantra of how supposedly peaceful Islam is will continue. And worse still, the attacks by the left against those who have always warned against Islam, will be angrier and merciless.
For now the German Islam supporters like never before have their backs against the wall.

He was on sick leave on the day he crashed the plane.
After reading what's being posted on facebook, twitter, and on another high-profile news forum, I think it's safe to say that most Americans, and indeed, most people in the western world will not fly anymore - period.
I'm sure that some businessmen/women will continue to fly, but since there's no way to be sure of the state of mind and/or the religion of one's pilot(s), people are stating that they're grounding themselves on purpose. This would, of course, be disastrous for the airlines and international businesses. If these people hold their ground (quite literally), ISIS will have succeeded in immobilizing both America and Europe.
As a missionary, I've worked with Muslims in the Middle East for a long time, and most of them don't want anything to do with ISIS, but when they're approached by radicals (and I've met with plenty of those), the choice they are given is to become a suicide bomber (I intensely dislike that term. What these people do isn't suicide; it's mass murder!) or watch their family be tortured and murdered, and then be killed themself anyway. That's how radicals get most of their 'converts.'
Since the leader of Iran is making no secret about taking over the world by 'Killing the Infidels,' it's hardly surprising to see that happening. Over two million people have been murdered by ISIS since 9/11.
The irony in all of this is that for over 900 years, from the Council of Nicaea in the early 4th century until the Protestant Reformation, the RCC issued the same order to adherents of Catholicism. Every Pope told all Catholics to "Kill the Infidels" (and they burned 65 million people at the stake within that time-frame), but the infidels at that time were Saracens (or adherents of Islam). Islam fought back, of course, but there are no innocents in these slaughters. Man has been murdering man since Cain slew Abel - and nothing much has changed.
Well, there are a few changes. Now we can murder everyone on the planet at once.
The item they found was a note from a doctor as well as many others saying he should have called out sick, including the day he killed himself and murdered 149 people. It does sound like he had been struggling for some time and saw this opportunity presented to him.
Copycats. The odds for it to happen are actually pretty good.
