Here are the reasons in red.

  2. DEN Denver < Major hub for United. Market is already monopolized.
  3. CLT Charlotte < Major hub for AA/US and not a strategic market for Emirates. Route would not succeed.
  4. LAS Las Vegas < Not a strategic market for Emirates. Route would not succeed.
  5. PHX Phoenix < Major hub for AA/US and also not a strategic market for Emirates. Route would not succeed.
  6. MIA Miami < Major hub for AA/US and too close to Orlando MCO which will be Emirate's regional gateway for Florida and Southeast US.
  7. EWR Newark < Too close to JFK which is already Emirate's regional gateway for NYC Metro region.
  8. MSP Minneapolis < Not a strategic market for Emirates. Route would not succeed.
  9. DTW Detroit < Not a strategic market for Emirates. Route would not succeed.
  10. PHL Philadelphia < Major hub for AA/US. Market is already monopolized

PS: I'm just kidding. About the first part anyway. Dubai is still a dump.
What didn't you like about Dubai?

Thank you for your thoughtful replies. However, Emirates has another 79 A380's on order and has promised Airbus an order of 200 neo A380's as an incentive to start the program. In addition they have large numbers of long haul Boeing aircraft on order as well. That's a lot of seating capacity to simply add flights to existing routes.

I think they want to dominate every aspect of long haul air travel. That means specifically attacking Delta, American, and United in their fortress hubs eventually.

While there are actually a fairly good collection of foreign airlines that fly into Newark, I don't think Emirates will compete with itself.

Foreign Airlines flying into Newark
  1. British Airways London–Heathrow
  2. Virgin Atlantic London–Heathrow
  3. La Compagnie London–Luton, Paris–Charles de Gaulle
  4. OpenSkies Paris–Orly
  5. Austrian Airlines Vienna
  6. Icelandair Reykjavík–Keflavík
  7. Lufthansa Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich
  8. Scandinavian Airlines Copenhagen, Oslo–Gardermoen, Stockholm–Arlanda
  9. Swiss International Air Lines Zürich
  10. Jet Airways Brussels, Mumbai
  11. TAP Portugal Lisbon, Porto
  12. Air India Ahmedabad, Mumbai
  13. Cathay Pacific Hong Kong
  14. EL AL Tel Aviv–Ben Gurion
  1. Air Canada Calgary, Toronto–Pearson, Vancouver
  2. Air Canada Express Montréal–Trudeau, Toronto–Pearson
  3. Porter Airlines Toronto–Billy Bishop Seasonal: Mont Tremblant
  4. Volaris Seasonal charter: Cancún

While I admit that it is unlikely that Emirates will expand to 19 airports in the USA in the immediate future, I think they will add one or two a year.
