Thank you for your thoughtful replies. However, Emirates has another 79 A380's on order and has promised Airbus an order of 200 neo A380's as an incentive to start the program. In addition they have large numbers of long haul Boeing aircraft on order as well. That's a lot of seating capacity to simply add flights to existing routes.
I think they want to dominate every aspect of long haul air travel. That means specifically attacking Delta, American, and United in their fortress hubs eventually.
While there are actually a fairly good collection of foreign airlines that fly into Newark, I don't think Emirates will compete with itself.
Foreign Airlines flying into Newark
- British Airways London–Heathrow
- Virgin Atlantic London–Heathrow
- La Compagnie London–Luton, Paris–Charles de Gaulle
- OpenSkies Paris–Orly
- Austrian Airlines Vienna
- Icelandair ReykjavÃk–KeflavÃk
- Lufthansa Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich
- Scandinavian Airlines Copenhagen, Oslo–Gardermoen, Stockholm–Arlanda
- Swiss International Air Lines Zürich
- Jet Airways Brussels, Mumbai
- TAP Portugal Lisbon, Porto
- Air India Ahmedabad, Mumbai
- Cathay Pacific Hong Kong
- EL AL Tel Aviv–Ben Gurion
- Air Canada Calgary, Toronto–Pearson, Vancouver
- Air Canada Express Montréal–Trudeau, Toronto–Pearson
- Porter Airlines Toronto–Billy Bishop Seasonal: Mont Tremblant
- Volaris Seasonal charter: Cancún
While I admit that it is unlikely that Emirates will expand to 19 airports in the USA in the immediate future, I think they will add one or two a year.
