There is something called the stroboscopic effect, for sampling below the Nyquest frequencies. Cameras have a frame rate, and your brains fill in the missing time between the images. But when you have a fast moving repetitive motion like spinning image with spokes or propellers. Your brain fills in the information incorrectly so that you perceive the wheels or props as changing direction from clockwise or counterclockwise.
