Forget about the hardware -- although it is a very fair comparison -- airports in Asia are far advanced even in terms of management.

In Singapore, they now do security checks at every gate separately. Therefore, not all passengers are bunched together at one check point, where those rushing to the gate can be waiting behind those having 3 hours to spare.

Airports in US are a war zone now. Definitely not an enjoyment any more to be there. Quite sad.

If you were to have security checkpoints at each gate in a airport like ATL, you would need about 200 checkpoints.

That's what SIN has.

When he mentioned some airports being like those in some third world countries, he may have been referring to LaGuardia NYC and Newark NJ

Biden said exactly the same thing.

Having a security check for each single gate is really not nice and not efficient from my experience, there are some other airports who do so, for example Berlin-Tegel (TXL) but I never made any good experiences with it. SIN is okay, but still I prefer airports with a central control point. One just has to make that one big, efficient and convenient enough.

Basically it is a waste of time for transfer passengers, and it is more likely to delay people who are coming from the lounge and usually go the gate just in time.

You do know that was all a political setup, right?

I agree with his general sentiments, but in reality, the planning, conceptual design, and environmental work and the procurement for a public-private partnership developer for the Central Terminal had already been underway for a few years when Biden flew into LGA (Why on earth would the VP fly there?--think about it) and made his "third-world" jab. It was near the point where one of three potential competing developers was going to be awarded and the construction could begin. His buddy Andy Cuomo up in Albany wanted to take credit even though he wasn't yet Gov when this all started, and because people don't generally know what's going on with public projects until they see construction, Biden and Cuomo could make it look as if Biden complained about the airport and Cuomo rushed in to save the day.

Sure enough, when the P3 developer was identified and their renderings of the new Terminal released, a press conference was held with Biden and Cuomo to make it look as if together they had taken the reins and made it happen, when in fact if they had both dropped dead of heart attacks the project would have gone on as planned all along.

This just wouldn't work well. A significant amount of traffic at large hubs is connecting traffic. This would mean in order to get from one flight to the next, you have to go through security again.

Not to mention, once you're through security, you have limited choices of what to do. Berlin (TXL) has the same setup for one of their terminals. Once we were through, we were stuck in a crowded waiting area for 45 minutes that had one bathroom and one small vendor. At least with every other airport, you have the ability to wonder around, grab a beer, stretch your legs etc

*shakes fist angrily at Charles de Gaulle in Paris*

Has anyone ever made a connection between terminals there? Is that a thing that is even possible?

I've only flown O&D through CDG, but I do remember it being a mess of escalators and rather confusing.

At many European hubs within the EU, you clear immigration, but are still on the "sterile" side for connections. The Asian hubs I've flown through have a separate immigration desk for transfer passengers.

For the US, domestic-domestic is sterile, domestic-international is a 50/50, depending on the airline and airport, but international-international and international-domestic requires you to go through security again.
